The Alpine Club of Canada (ACC) is headquartered in Canmore, Alberta and dedicated to promoting hiking, climbing, skiing, and environmental advocacy in Canada's alpine environments. ACC manages North America’s largest network of backcountry huts, providing year-round access to accommodations in remote wilderness areas. ACC’s infrastructure supports sustainable mountain exploration through promoting responsible camping practices, ensuring that future generations can enjoy exploring the mountains in the same condition that we can today.

While ACC charges users a fee to support their operating costs, donations help to support larger capital investments. Currently, most of ACC's facilities use propane electricity for illumination and charging of back country safety devices. Unfortunately, propane is not a low-cost source of electricity, presents a health hazard to hut users from the production of carbon monoxide, and results in the release of carbon emissions.

ACC has commenced the process of switching the source of electricity generation at its backcountry huts to a combination of solar, wind, and energy storage, however the capital costs required to complete this transition require donor support. To date, ACC has installed non-carbon-emitting electricity generation systems on five of its huts, resulting in lower operating costs, improved user safety, and lower carbon emissions. As both users of ACC's huts and people who work in the electricity industry, the Abode team has decided to support ACC by both donating and helping raise funds for the installation of solar and energy storage systems in order to accelerate the reduction of ACC’s propane usage across its network of huts.

Through the process of providing this continued support to ACC, Abode strives to help them become more economically and environmentally sustainable, enabling both current and future generations of Albertans to benefit from the facilities and programs that ACC provides.
